| ARTISTIC STATEMENT |
||||||
| The predominance of the artwork is given to the gracefulness of movement and suggests to the imagination the fascination of a flock of flying birds, where particules of life emerge and intertwine. Movements of fire, clouds and waves. A whole world in movement is what Denise Gazaille expresses on canvas. The blending of refined and harmonious colors guide the viewer into an emotional and reflective universe. It is life in the simple apparel of a flower, of grassblades, of glittering waves and billowing clouds. The canvas catches the eye, irresistibly. The painting is a bridge between two worlds in the making: dreams and reality are thus joined. Inspired by a strong impulse towards innovation and progress, the artist is carried away by the colors and forms of a creative maelstrom, the perfect way to express her innermost essence. |

| Paulette Marie Sauvé - Artifact Landscapes - “I am a painter in oil and mixed media, and I also weave tapestry using the Les Gobelins technique. I apply ancient dye recipes to the yarns. My style of painting has consistently reflected my work in tapestry weaving. Travels in Europe and the Mid-East have inspired a contemplation of aspects of archaeology and mysticism in my work. My purpose is to show my current work which is a series of abstract works and landscapes with a sculpted textured surface. Woven fabric imbedded in the background of my paintings recalls my work in tapestry. The colours are blended to reproduce the patina of antiques and artifacts. These paintings are inspired by ancient geological formations, marshes, rivers and archeological sites. My goal in the larger pieces is to bring the viewer into an earthy, spiritual environment that represents the passage of time. My objective is to help the viewer to find elusive images in a sort of narrative, evoking archaic identities and whispers of ancestral voices." |

| ARTISTIC STATEMENT |
||||||

| ARTISTIC STATEMENT |
||||||
My actual artistic direction is proposing a new look on framing pieces of arts. It is an aesthetic criticism concerning the act of framing where artworks are confined for the selling market of visual arts. The movement of the paints, colors and textures in 3D all together is rebelling against that notion of framing by braking the frames in its path or surpassing them on its way to freedom. Impulsive, emotional and colourful, the pressure of the creative in its pure sense is getting out of the frame in a different direction for each piece, exploring a wide range of dynamics and concepts from one to another. The main objective is to deliver the beauty of chaos through abstract art and 3D pieces of all dimensions. Several means of expressions are used to produce those emotional abstractions in the realm of visual arts; broken paintings or paintings breaking through, interactive installations and body paintings with performances relating to the artworks. Projects can be made upon requests or can be presented in an all ready made prototype. Since the very beginning of my interdisciplinary works in 1991, I have constantly passed from one pole to another; from dance to life modeling, from music to writing, from make-up to body painting and now, from paintings to installations. As of today, I am finally reuniting my artistic assets into those Creations in Situ to become. |

| BIOGRAPHY |

Born in Quebec, Gabrielle Bolvari-Bergeron always knew she wanted to paint. Her double nationality (Quebecois and Hungarian) greatly informs both her approach to creation and her conception of the world around. Her ties to Hungarian culture, her difference and her relation to her roots and origins have a profound influence over her choice of subjects in her paintings. The individual, its trace and print are the main topics of her work, in which she explores the conflictual relation between the artist and his or her work. Having begun self-taught painting at the age of eight, the she got a degree in Visual and Media Arts in 2011. She also pushed her studies further at Concordia University, where she discovered Frida, Malevitch and Koons, three artists whose influence over her own creations is tremendous (self- portraits, abstraction and the commercial view about art etc.). Very proactive in the arts community, her talent and particular touch and more and more sought for. In 2011, she won a talent contest in Boisbriand. Follow to this, the city of Boisbriand commissioned a sculpture from her, to be exposed in a community park. Named L’Arbre du Voyageur, the galvanized steel work expresses the need of the artist to leave a trace. Its symbolism of roots and introspective travel is one very dear to her. An important acknowledgement of her talent was her selection for ArtExpo exhibit in New York City, a great international exhibit, in 2011. Such visibility in the industry also brought her to take part in the prestigious Red Dot Miami, in 2011. She did a recidency and exibit around New Zealand in for 4 month in 2012. Also a part-time painting teacher, Gabrielle is currently working on her concept, defining art as an object and a merchandise, and the artist as a brand, in the conflictual relation that unites the creator to his or her work. |

| My path is walking, in all senses imaginable. In the physical sense, walking is the primary way most human beings get around. We are pedestrians, walking before anything else, this human characteristic a signifier of our stage in human evolution. Walking allows us to better understand the terrain that we roam through and to take time to appreciate all that we can learn from that which is around us. Since as long as I can remember, I have always been interested in exploring new frontiers. From the schoolyard to the freightyards, Marks left in the past made me appreciate the idea that all of us are peers sharing space. Whether it be “sophie wuz here” or a work of art so complex and colorful that i could not read it, I remain captivated by the fact that at another moment in time, a fellow pedestrian found themselves exactly at that location to leave this mark. Gradually curiosity over this grew within me, and brought me to discover exclusive locations (abandonned industrial buildings, down town rooftops, tunnels...) and lead me to photography, which allows me to communicate and share these adventures. My curiosity then lead me to pencil, paintbrush, spray cans, paint rollers, and even extinguishers. As much as I am conscious that the world of marginalized artists and vandals has as much good as bad, I in no case regret the life experience it’s brought me. The perspective that I have today was formed by minute observations on the croud effect in people, aggressive compulsively edgy advertising, and especially the matrix, weather physical or temporal, that the most of my peers revere. The years of practicing this marginalized and media-stereotyped way of life has brought me discipline, and the development of a maturity in technique and style that i bring to what I do now. With time, black and white film became SD cards, Flash Drives, HD camcorders, laptop computers and 10 tb of external harddrive. In a sens, documentation brought me to practice wich has naturally brought me to this new ways of documenting my actions. This documentation and accumulated expertise with the years has given me today more opportunities to learn and share. The concept that is, without a doubt, the most important for me, which has allowed me to get through difficult times, to reach my goals and allow me to adapt to situations day-to-day, is openness. Not only to different mediums of communication, but also to people and their various baggage. Openness to all of the steps in their paths and mine, having allowed our paths to cross. This opennness, that i re-discover each time that i take the first step of a new walk. As a so-called artist, i am nourrished by what I see and do...This is why i greatly appreciate the gift of a physically capable body which allows me to explore my neighborhood, my city, my world. v “A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step” - Lao Tseu |

Her degree in arts and interior design is in addition to her experience in commercial display and her knowledge of color, materials and eco-design. To create her originals she can use mediums like acrylic, pencil, digital, and microphotography to get unusual visual effects. Her artistic approach is based on exploration and she expresses her passion in the sphere of innovation. | Being of a sanguine nature, my enthusiastic personality led me trough different and formations. I began with oil, a medium for me rich in brightness and texture. Then, I tried out acrylic resin. It fast drying action pleased me much, enabling me to produce much more quickly when the inspiration was present. My curiosity also led me to test the aquarelle, a completely different medium in my opinion. I still to this date discover it and let me tame by this art. I have also painted a lot with a mixed medium, flowers, trees and cocks. Currently, I am back to my first loves, that is to say the oil-base paint. I paint especially cocks, an animal which I find gracious and who represent for me joy, chance and abundance. I like to look at my paintings when they are finished. For me, they are a mean of highlighting my emotions. I appreciate the discussions that it generates with my entourage and interested people. |

| With her captivating images of everyday objects like glass, fabric and metal, Wilda Gerideau-Squires elevates her raw material from its conventional context, strips it of its associations and turns it into a pure visual dialogue between textures, forms and light. Using both film and digital photography, she explores the essence of her objects, and creates pictures that are powerful due to their themes of visual contrast, especially the interplay of light upon fabric of varying thicknesses and colors. The resulting abstract images continually remind us that in everything there is an extraordinary element waiting to be discovered and appreciated. Through Wilda's stunning work, we are able to both take in their beauty as art objects, but also identify them with their real-world counterparts, thereby gaining a stirring lesson in the unique and enigmatic qualities inherent in commonplace objects. The dramatic balance of forms and shapes which she uncovers conjures a wide range of moods in us; her work is an intense combination of control and focus as well as the spontaneity which breathes life into abstraction. By her skills, sensitivity and finely honed craft, Wilda Gerideau-Squires is able to create images that are haunting, luminous, and enigmatic. ArtisSpectrum Magazine November, 2009 Gerideau-Squires’ photographs have been exhibited in the United States and Europe and she has received numerous national and international awards. In 2008, Women In Photography International named Gerideau-Squires among the world’s most Distinguished Women Photographers. Her photographs are included in the Peter E. Palmquist Collection at Yale University’s Beinecke Library, the State House Office Building in Boston and numerous private collections in the United States and Canada. | My main interest lies in the level of perception and experimentation, whatever the subject or medium approached. I work to tame the forms released from random observations. This perception plays at the same time in a representational and abstract way. Observation occupies my mind constantly, procuring me a rich inspiration for the creation of my paintings. Upon observing a landscape, I surprise myself continually playing with the negative space, thus dividing the interior and exterior space, clearing the perceived shape becoming then abstract. The sensation of the present moment transposes on the canvas. Being fed by colors, I tame the persistence of vision, optical phenomenon on the retina of the eye which excites the perception of the complementary, experience known to Cézanne. I paint the after-imagery on landscapes as much as on everyday objects. Shadows and lights exalt, colors thus dance on my paintings. The mediums that I am particularly fond of are acrylic, oil, dry pastel as well as water colors and charcoal. I use what is available in my studio guided by the inspiration of the moment. Every element gets together so that a strong and intriguing structure appears before my eyes while I paint, heightening my pleasure. I paint inspired by the surprise of the moment. |

| "The pathway of self-taught painter and passionate." This is a perspective view, of course, but also incomplete, as these pages may represent years of development. I propose a reflection on visual elements captured in the nature because it is in the landscape that I find my inspiration. I feel the need to paint these scenes in what is more figurative, or even more abstract and impressionist to describe them or suggest them my way. I am proud of my passion, happy times she gives to me and it works allows me to do. My first ambition, in addition to satisfying my passion and be happy and that of giving a value to my work so that the customer is proud to say: "It's a Fernand Brunelle." |

| I am a trained musician who mixes and matches sound and colour. “Colour is the other side of sound”. I like to believe that all vibrations are tuned to create more harmony on Earth. My brushstrokes are lively and free. The first stroke on the canvas is almost always spontaneous and in a very clear primary colour. When preparing for a new painting, I invariably take out tubes of primary colours and greens, a bit of white and black. Canvas size depends on my mood; I may work on many small sizes with mixed media before bringing them together on a bigger canvas later on. Uniting all these colours and movements releases an incredible energy. Should my moods require grander, more fluid and unbridled brushstrokes, I entrust them to a larger surface. I enjoy this way of creating. It’s how I can express my exuberance and convey my joie de vivre and emotions to others. When I get angry, colour and movement become violent—anger is black while the brushstrokes intensify through deep yellows and accelerate through bright reds. Purple is what usually accompanies my sadness. But colour does not exist without movement, and vice versa; it’s that first brushstroke that spawns subsequent ones, as the painting becomes dynamic and vibrant. The grandness of a sunset arouses symphony, grandeur, immenseness and splendour—brushstrokes are large, fluid and deep. Most of the time I use acrylics. Occasionally, I’m inspired to create faces and portraits, using chalk pastel and starting with a charcoal drawing. Initially I had much fun with watercolours. But after three years of intense experimentation with all types of colours (i.e., watercolours, gouaches, inks, felt pens, colour pencils and wax crayons), I now stick to acrylic. My paintings are very ethereal. Subjects tend to float, to fly away, stretching nonchalantly, sensually. I pay special attention to the balance of shapes that may suddenly appear, and to the coherence of the composition. I try to spread the beauty, the elegance. I work intensely, entering the painting and becoming one with it: I become Firebird, I am Santa Fe, I lose all notion of time and I never feel hungry—it’s quite the trip! Often I will stop, sit down and meditate on my creation for awhile, perhaps even several days. I interact with my painting. It’s all part of the creative process. This apparently inanimate painting reaches, advances and settles into space—it’s magical! I will look at my painting while playing the piano. Sound and colour unite in perfect harmony; it is the grand finale. I will even get up at night to examine it. Before signing, I add a bit of light here or more definition there.. ...then suddenly the painting is complete. It comes alive. I sign it. Long live life! |

| Since I make exposure-photographs, I receive, and more and more, the comment which my images are very pictorial. “It looks like painting! ». I think that my final images, resulting from photography, finish their way some share between photography and painting or with one their crossings. This feeling led me besides to try the experiment to make develop several photographs on groundwork (canvas), medium devoted to painting. I made knowledge with certain programs of final improvement of images and, as you will be able to note it, I sometimes had fun in their exploration. My technique of catch of sight however remained the same one. Always into search of color and light, I generally transform reality as of the catch of sight. So certain images were improved very little, if not at all, whereas others remained a few hours under the mouse in operating table (!). I try to seize where is the balance or the harmonious imbalance of the forms, the movement, the colors, the tone, contrasts and the luminosity with an aim of presenting an aesthetic image which opens the door with various interpretations and thus makes it possible the process of creation to continue in the imaginary one of the spectator. |

| A CREATIVE LAB about the ENERGY of SHOW BUSSINESS My paintings are like large playgrounds where I have fun combining the painting mediums and techniques. Even though acrylic is my principal medium, I sometimes use oil, charcoal, pastel, and often incorporate techniques such as collage, transfer, scraping, stencil and mono print. Through numerous layers of color and texture, large gestural brush strokes and/or little touches, washes, and different thicknesses of paint, my work can be read and appreciated, at some distance, in its totality. These creative laboratories tend to express a form of ENERGY that excites me constantly, with MUSIC and DANCE PERFOMANCES offering an inexhaustible source of inspiration: - First, my MUSICIANS are depicted in a movement of electrifying passion; - In my present project on DANCE, the challenge is to capture the SOUL of a specific moment, the intensity of a fragment of movements and the intimacy of dancers in the execution of their ART. - And gradually, my projects are leaning toward the world of ACROBATS and the depiction of crowds of SPECTATORS; - Finally, and in a very different kind of show, I find a personal balance by presenting the marvelous world of NATURE (demystified landscape, close-up insects and small animals). Ultimately, my goal is to try and make drawing disappear by creating a STAMP of RAW ENERGY where only the ‘physical and total expression’ of the performance artist or sublime nature, unfold before your eyes. |

| Being a City Child, I cannot but be deeply moved and inspired by the urgent intensity of it’s pulse. The abundance of life that animates it and the incredibly rich, if often barely perceivable, visual feast that it creates, are bread and water to my artistic inspiration. A totally Human Creation, the City demands our constant interaction and participation while it excites and fulfills all our senses. I find myself the “prospector” of it’s vital energy to give life and soul to my creations. At the same time, I observe and scrutinize my specie through it's never ending quest for more: more BEAUTY, more HEIGHTS, more SPEED, more EASY. It is man's resilience and inner strength, combined to his emotional complexity, that fathered this City that I love and it never ceases to amaze me. All these Urban and Human influences fill me with an unconditional admiration for the human body and for the Soul of which it is the vessel in this stormy life of iron and steel. As a good prospector, I dig. Sometimes, I dig to rediscover the basics of corporal expression. Other times, I dig to concretize the spiritual or glorify the purity of form and movement. And, all this, I express with my bare hand, taming and kneading the matter. But, I also have a sweet side, always keeping me light of heart and daring with that matter, be it earth, metal or stone. I try to push the limits of equilibrium to reveal the hidden tactile intensity of long lines and forms. My pieces confront each and everyone to his own fragility but they also testify of how rich and fertile life is in spite of all appearances. |

| My journey: My artistic journey is characterized by spontaneous and authentic expression of my reality as a wife, mother and artist. I have developed several techniques : like the 3-D, Grafftag, Oil Plywood, the Freestyle, Post-Her and Artwear. My artistic sensibility is directly connected to my environment and I respond to these impulses by painting the feelings and emotions that I see throughout my life journey. |
||||||
| BIOGRAPHY |
||||||
| Margotella was born in Rigaud, QC in 1955, third child to a family of five that hosted an artist aunt famous in Europe at the beginning of the century for her nude in pastel: Lise Lajoie. The works of this aunt were on display on the wall of her home and were Margotella’s first art school for she was fascinated by their forms, color, and texture. As an adult, Margotella turned her love for Art to the profession of Fashion Design which took her to Bolivia where she worked in the elaboration of high fashion native knits. The spontaneity of expression and originality of the Aymara designs awoke her own distant native roots and in 1995, after the birth of her 6th child and her1st daughter, Margotella entered the very stern and rigid Academy of Visual Art of La Paz Bolivia. Since 2003, Margotella has dedicated herself to explore, discover and define her artistic identity and this has led to the creation of her 6 techniques of expression which are based on recycling and transformation. She does 3-D with PVC moulds and masks, her Graff Tag is done on anonymous paintings found in recycling containers or church sales, with her Oil on Raw Plywood she does Anatomies, Surrealism or Landscapes where the grain of the wood is harmonized into the composition and her Freestyle technique realized on recycled fashion accessories and canvas is a total letting go of forms and colors and Post-Her Pop Art realized on posters of movie icons like Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor and James Dean, Jim Morisson and Artwear graphic art done on Clothing and Accessories by herself or with the collaboration of an artist friend Suma. Their collection in on permanent exhibit at the legendary friperie Eva B on St Laurent Blvd. In the past 7 years she has been in over fifty vernissages and artistic events as well as giving conferences and workshops. In 2007, she realized 18 collective murals in Montreal and this year has put together a unique solo exhibit at the Culturel Center Pauline Julien in Trois-Rivieres. She is also known as The Queen Margot at the Live Art Events of Foufounes Electriques. Margotella is a member of the following artistic associations: CAQ, ART CLUB, GFAE, AAVNM, CAPSQC and TRACES MULTIPLES and a Member of the Board of Carrefour Jeunesse of Ahuntsic. |

Fishes which are a part of my signs astrological dominant, bring to my personality a reservoir illuminated with dream feelings of imagination and with sensibility up to the point to soak literally in an ocean of impression(printing) often shady but delicious. | Born in 1978, Melsa is a multiple-subject artist who lives and works in Montreal. She earns a certificate in visual arts in 2000 and has been working for a dozen years in the world of arts, communications and media. One of her creations is on the cover of a novel: «Lundi sans faute» of the author Joel Thomas Hynes in editions Quebec America in 2009. She obtained the jury s recognition for the calendar of the painters of Laval in 2007. She was published and has been broadcast in different artistic magazines, web sites and webzine. Self employed full time worker and painter, Melsa swirls between her many projects. The passage of messages in zones of the human brain tells the story of her creations. They are the explosion of memories. The character is represented in different times and situations. But what unites them, is what is created as a file of images in this organ. Past, memories and memo of sometimes personal touching situations and others of news Acrylic has become her medium of predilection and it quickly began to raise the speed of her works. Getting her inspiration from ancient serigraphy, illustrations and different motives and textures from different times gives her an openess in her process of creation. Her entire work represents the reflexions of her emotions, memories and those of the human character. Her character features burst out to reach out such as her paintings plunge us into the sensitivity of their worlds. Her interest and influence spred trough several artistic movements as: Pop Art, Contemporary Art, Dadaism and Cubism. |

| ARTISTIC STATEMENT |
||||||
| In my creative process I let this emotion emerge and release it on the canvas by using a spatula so that the shape takes life. The structure of mortar, acrylic finish oil and pigments are sometimes literally burst a tree, a flower, a rooster or as a other emotion form. It is most often rounded lines that I work on. The tree represents life, strength, resistance to weathering. Sometimes more abstract, sometimes defined in thin transparent layers of exploding colors and surreal ... this topic is kind of my imprint. The color may soften its appearance, or rather gives it a characteristic of power by its three-dimensional effect that explodes from the canvas. We can let our imaginations get away in the canvas to discover a hidden form which surprises me sometimes myself. I'm always looking for new materials for my artistic evolution. |

| Jean-Claude Collet Photographic Artist «His photographic research questions the relevance of his own prejudices. What it asks weaves a thread that is central throughout his work. He enjoys the use of close-ups and leftfield angles that bring a second layer of metaphor while clearly underlining his different perceptions of a subject. With digital means, he shapes the images to accentuate their power, and, sometimes, the ideas and elements used out of their contexts create pieces that provoke uncanny emotional responses. The print media is also determined by the intent and subject as a way to add impact. His artistic work is an invite for people, an incitement for questioning. |

| Edyth Généreux Contemporary painter Visual arts specialist, offers custom designed paintings for residential & commercial projects. ARTISTIC APPROACH The contemporary artist, Edyth Généreux, was born in Sainte-Julie, Montreal, Quebec in 1980.Over the years, it has developed a unique artistic approach that embodies his passion and she lives in osmosis with his creations that are well recognized style. After several exhibitions and openings his current collection is presented to the Gallery Le Vereau in Montreal, Gallery Rimawi in Laval and the Gallery Trudel in Joliette. Edyth, as we know in the world of art opened the Montréal (SIDIM) Interior Design International show in May last with triumph. Last June, in collaboration with the Group the route, the GRATITUDE the work carried out by the ParcondonMD of the Montreal Museum of fine arts was sold at auction by the society for arts and technology (SAT). In October 2010, she received the great Distinction in figurative border for originality, aesthetic and technical of his work the EXCITEMENT value, of27th competition - Gala International Visual Arts sound and light, assigned by the Circle of artists painter and sculptors of Quebec. In June 2010, it is selected with 5 other Quebec artists for the project "Orign'Art", associated with the Museum of Fine Arts in Montreal. His work in two dimensions on sculpture "LE PASSAGE and the cry of the CŒUR…" THROUGH THE HEART! "is currently exposed permanently in collaboration with the association of the District of the Museum of Fine Arts, at the corner of Sherbrooke and Mackay. In addition, she met a success for individuals, the corporate and international private collectors. Artist seeks a path of freedom by passing by the transmutation of matter until the rise of the work, by the fluidity and the transposition of images forms, colors, and textures. This fluidity appears as the spontaneous gesture and the force of a process similar to Alchemy. The movement through the body thus avoiding brain analysis, bringing treatment and transparency. Sometimes, the approach is gross to protect the original impulse of the heart. It emerges a fascination and a real communion with matter. L ' emotion comes from this meeting of the watched thing and its interior resonance; it is to be faithful to this particular space, this constant dance between the visible and the invisible. |

| Tree Trunk Tables – Functional art by Nickadoo After twenty years in the Advertising industry as a strategic Media Planner for National Advertising Agencies and Media Representative for the Canadian Public Broadcaster, CBC Television, Nicole Belanger of Nickadoo Design left the Montreal downtown scene with her husband Jean-Francois, for greener spaces and settled in the Eastern Townships, Quebec bordering Vermont, USA. While observing in her area beautiful tree logs destined for firewood she was compelled to save them and started designing and creating tree trunk tables with the least processing possible. “Inspired by the natural shapes and textures of the tree trunks I began collecting debris from the surrounding lumbering companies and naturally fallen trees. While cleaning the logs I soon started revealing the inner life of each by letting the grain, age rings and different layers of bark express themselves and curiously explored any life stories such as gashes from the lumber companies, bear claws, beaver teeth and or deer antler marks. The final process, in order to ensure a good after life for the log pieces, was born by the addition of legs transforming them into sturdy functional art.” “The hands-on work is a joyful process that begins, I believe, with respect for the forest and the trees that are its memory”. Recently chosen by the Institute of Industrial Design in Warsaw, Poland, Nickadoo Tree Trunk Tables was selected as a perfect illustration of current trends in 2011. |

| Runners of the wind Trained at the Université du Québec à Montréal, Johanne Blaquière holds a degree in design graphique. After several years as a graphic designer, her career branched off into drawing and painting, an art which she been practicing ever since. For over the past ten years, she has been involved in art teaching, all the while continuing to create her own paintings. With her paintings, Johanne Blaquière plunges us into an imaginary and fantastic world of horses and riders. The horse, symbol of freedom, runner of the wind, is the ideal subject to demonstrate all the magic of the creative process. Using a variety of media in some of her artwork, or just oil and acrylics in others, the painter presents horses and riders in abstract worlds evoking images that alternate between South America, the Middle East and Europe. Behold an invitation to travel beyond the bound of reality and give way to imagination! The paintings emit an incredible force of both strength and grace. With bold and gentle strokes of the brush, the horses appear ethereal and transparent, but their formidable colours make these magnificent creatures literally leap from the canvas. |

| ARTISTIC STATEMENT |
||||||
| Self-taught painter since 2009 Successful aviation industry professional up until 2007 In September 2007, Philippe Doucet’s world turned upside down. His whole identity – his career, his family life, his financial security – everything – came crumbling down all around him. He spent the better part of the following year trying to understand what led him to such a radical upheaval. By the end of 2008, he had started painting. He had no formal background in art, but painting proved to be therapeutic – a daily activity that restored his sense of well-being. Ever since then, he has pursued this quest for his true self, by struggling to determine how individuals construct their identity through a mishmash of illusions that form a mental prison. His creative model is based on inner silence. His approach is simple: he paints “with his mind turned off.” This approach involves learning how to look at oneself from within, taking a step back to realize that people everywhere invent roles for themselves – although, upon closer examination, the result is little more than a conglomeration of unsubstantiated concepts, convictions and conclusions, crystallized around a mental image. Doucet’s creative approach is rooted in intuition and rejects any such preconceived identities. « When I succeed in casting off the role I think I play, when I stop referring to the past and fearing a future that robs me of the freshness of the moment, that’s when the world becomes silent and I can create. This state of mind is in a vertical space, unfettered by the confines of time – a space that is simultaneously empty and brimming over with stillness. From this stability and serenity is born the intuitiveness of movement and texture, the choice of colour and the shape to be transformed.» |
