| ARTISTIC STATEMENT |
I was born in Anopolis, Sfakia, Crete in 1938. I am the second son in a family of eight brothers and sisters. I had attended the local school until the age of twelve. In order to continue my education I left my village for the city of Hania, where I attended the Ecclesiastic School of Crete. The school curriculum consisted of religious studies, but art was an important part of our daily routine. I was taught how to sketch in charcoal, pencil and ink. I was also introduced to oil painting. Now that I am retired as a warehouse manager of a textile company, I took up painting with great enthusiam. I spent every moment creating my first love: landscapes. My main medium is oils with using either a painting knife or a brush. In between my painting I started writing about my thoughts and remembrances of days long ago. I also started to feel the need to express some of my thoughts in poetry. These writings are all written in my native language, Greek.
