| DÉMARCHE | |
| Carol Brodkin-Sang obtained her BFA from York University, Toronto in l983. She draws and paints a variety of subject matter ranging from landscapes to figures. Her conte crayon drawings of urban scenes, landscapes and figures show an intensity through the contrast of dark and light. It is through painting in both acrylic and watercolor that Carol breaks free. Primarily impressionistic in style, she loves to express a joie de vivre with rich use of color. Years ago she enjoyed the challenge of tackling a subject matter never encountered in her university years - a commission to paint hockey players. Since then, she has sold a number of acrylic hockey paintings. The watercolor medium has allowed Carol to develop her imagery. Her "Lillies" watercolor on arches paper, 75 x 56 cm depicts a close-up of the flower and the contrast of its form to the dark surroundings. In "9/11", also 75 x 56 cm, she breaks away from purely representational imagery: In the midst of an explosion, hands reach towards each other for spiritual strength. Since 1996, she has offered a comprehensive drawing course at Concordia Centre For Continuing Education. She welcomes both beginners and experienced artists in the same class, believing that each individual has a hidden talent. |
